Creating Frame by Frame Animation

Creating Frame by Frame AnimationBack to Index
In order to transform the geometric shapes into animation, you must create multiple frames of images. Each frame should be similar to the frame before with slight changes in the image or in its position. Each slight change represents a unit of movement. When placed together and played back, the image seems to be moving, creating the animated effect.
Upon creating a new animation all images in all the frames that have not been saved are deleted and a new blank frame appears.
To create a new animation:
- Click New.
- Select Yes.
In order to create the animated effect, multiple frames must be created with slight differences in the image. The following example displays the slight differences in three consecutive frames:
When these images are played back, it looks as if the image is moving.
- To create a new frame: Click
- To delete the current frame: Click
A new frame is created with a replica of the image in the previous frame. The slight changes to the image should be made in the new frame. Clicking on INS once again saves the image and replicates the current frame so that new changes can be made in the following frame. You can toggle between frames by using the frame bar located under the workspace or you can use the < or > keys.
Viewing Multiple Frames SimultaneouslyBack to Index
While designing the image you can only see the frame you are working on. In order to track changes it is helpful when you are able to see the previous and next frames at the same time. This animation technique is referred to as “onion-skin” because of an old cell animation technique.
In order to view several frames simultaneously:
- Click Onion.
- Toggle backwards using the frame bar.
The previous and next images are shown in shadow.
Sound can be added to the animation and is done so by adding it individually to a desired frame or frames. SHAPE SHIFTER has four default sounds that can be used. You can also replace the default sounds with up to four sounds that are saved on your computer.
To add a default sound to a frame:
- Move to the frame in which you want to add the sound.
- Click on one of the four QUE boxes. Each box has a different sound.
To add a sound saved on your computer:
- Click on a SFX files.
- Select a file no larger than 50kb.
Note: The sound starts in the frame or QUE selected but continues till the sound bit has ended.
After constructing multiple frames you can play the animation.
plays the animation.
is used to toggle between loop and playing once.
The fps, frames per second, can be set to 12 or to 24. The 12 fps tends to result in an unsmooth or “jumpy” running animation, while 24 fps is the speed of film thus, runs faster and smoother.
The animation is saved on the aniBoom website and can be seen in the BoomZone. You can play and edit your animation after logging in with your user name. You can also send the link to your friends so that they too can see your film.
To save your animation:
- Click SAVE.
- Select a thumbnail image from either the current , first or last frame.
- Click Save.
