I'd love to see a minute of this, if you decide to take it that far. The moment at the automatic door is especially powerful. I don't know about your final render plans, but I think there's a lot to explore with the word bubble and how you portray them. There's a number of ways for them to really interact with the characters could be really cool.

I love the story, but inserting dialogue makes it cumbersome - is there any way you can remove the words and still tell the message?

i tried many different ways of conveying the story without it, but you just wouldn't understand what's going on in those scenes without text.
