I loved his movie BARNSTORMER so it was exciting to see what Taylor would do with color...and he didn't disappoint, making the most of our added feature in his short COLOR DREAM. Rodriguez always kept us guessing with his MR. COO series - endlessly inventive and thoughtful. His skill translated well, with the sassy SHAPE SHIFT HER. Love those finger snaps! Congratulations, guys!
Here's a tip from Mikergee: Use images of the real thing as a reference point. For example, when you want to draw a cellphone or a guitar. That way you're never too far off from the real thing when you try to recreate it in Shapeshifter. (note how my imitation of a cellphone is *not* realistic - Ed.)
Here's a tip from Shaneandhisdog: Select every shape(or group)in the object you want to cast the shadow. Copy the entire selection. Use the color picker to make all shapes the same color. Save it into a new "shadow" group if you want . Flip/reverse it however you need to. You can keep the same shape, or create a new one each frame (easy with groups) if you want it to be accurate.
This week was a tough one. So many good films and a really really close call on who the winners were. But I think you'll all agree that Ramiro Olmos and Shimon are both deserving winners for their films BOTHERSOME GUEST and VFX STUDY. Congratulations, guys!
Ramiro Olmos is one of our most prolific Shapeshifter creators - 18 movies competing! I've been amazed by what he comes up with. BOTHERSOME GUEST has all the elements for a great animation - timing, a funny story and of course perspective, creative angles, and smooth movement. Oh and did I mention blood..yeah, blood is always a winner.
Shimon impressed us with his other movies in which he demonstrated his solid grasp of the way things move, but VFX STUDY took things to a whole new level. Incredibly original, I honestly haven't seen anything like it among the Shapeshifter movies. Just watch it in wireframe mode - how did he come up with this?
